You have the right to go to school for free
You have the right to receive support to succeed in your studies, training courses or apprenticeships. Your school must respect your rights and never use violence.
What does that mean?
Luxembourg wants to give you the best conditions so that you can develop your skills to their fullest potential. There are various aid measures to help you if need be.
For example, schooling and text books are free for all.
Why is school obligatory from the age of 4 to 18?
In Luxembourg, you have to go to school between the ages of 4 and 18 so that you can discover your talents, develop your skills and eventually choose a job that will allow you to live your best life.
What does Luxembourg do?
To ensure that everyone has the same chances, Luxembourg has introduced the following measures:
- Free texts books for all
- The obligation to stay at school until the age of 18 (as of 2026) to fight against school drop-outs and youth unemployment
- The development of international schools
- Schooling in German and French
- Reception classes for newly arrived pupils in Luxembourg
- Extra support for young people with special needs
- The creation of a school mediation service
